Summary of One Indian Girl Book by Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat’s One Indian Girl: An Unusual Story of Arranged Marriage, has been termed “bold” and a “beautiful blend of fiction and non-fiction”. In this story, Chetan Bhagat takes his readers from an arranged marriage in a conservative Indian family to a liberal and open marriage. A book that is already being termed as a “must-read” for all married couples, One Indian Girl has been praised for its humour and honesty. If you haven’t got your hands on the book yet, then here’s another reason why you should pick up a copy right away.

One Indian Girl tells the story of Radhika Mehta, a successful businesswoman working for Krida Prabodhini, a fictitious company in Mumbai. The novel begins by depicting her as someone who is extremely guarded about her personal life and who is seemingly immune to the challenges faced by other women in India. However, as the story progresses, Radhika is forced to confront the various struggles that she has been trying to avoid, including gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and marital rape.

One Indian Girl provides an important perspective on the challenges faced by women in India and is a must-read for anyone looking to gain a better understanding of the country. Bhagat’s writing style is engaging and easy to read, making it a perfect choice for those who are looking for a more light-hearted read. If you’re looking for an interesting non-fiction book that provides a unique perspective on Indian culture, then this is the book for you. Bhagat has managed to strike the perfect balance between fiction and non-fiction. Since it is based on the author’s own story, One Indian Girl can best be classified as an autobiography of sorts.

The Main Scoop of One Indian Girl

The book is based on the life of an Indian girl Radhika who goes to study in the United States. She meets a guy there and falls in love with him. After returning back to India, they get married against the wishes of her family. But soon she realizes that things are not working out between her and her husband. The more she tries the more he is away from her. She soon learns about his past of having many failed relationships in the United States.

She later comes to know that he was married before too but it did not work out so now he is living a life as a bachelor. Even then she continues to be with him. Not only that she even helps him in his business of money lending so he can buy a new house. But soon things get worse and the dream life starts crumbling. Little does Radhika know, her husband is unable to forget about what happened in his past life? I would not like to reveal too much as it would be a spoiler.

Talking about the book as such there is nothing much to talk about it other than that, I really liked reading it. The story has a very relatable theme and I am sure all girls would love to read it even once in their lifetime. The book has a lot of potentials and I am sure we will eventually see it adapted into a movie.
